On Mar. 21, 2025, Prof. Yasushi Ono of the Department of Advanced Energy, who retired at the end of the AY2024 , delivered his final lecture titled “Artificial Sun Development — From Laboratory Astronomy to the FAST Demonstration Reactor” at the Hongo Campus. The lecture, which not only presented outstanding academic achievements but also emphasized that “spirit” is the most essential driving force behind such accomplishments, left a lasting impression on the large audience in attendance. Following the lecture, a party was held where Prof. Ono reconnected with many colleagues and associates from various stages of his career, including his student days.
Even after retirement, Prof. Ono will continue his contributions to the field of plasma and fusion research under new environment, while also undertaking important roles such as the president of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ). We sincerely wish him continued success in his future endeavors.
